Notes from the Lt. Governor Education & Training
John Lesko, DTM
What your LGET has learned along the way...
Dear Fellow Toastmasters:
One thing I’ve learned along the way is that success many times begins with the understanding of the
organization’s mission. So let’s start with a mission analysis.
The Mission of the District
... is to enhance the performance and extend the network of clubs, thereby offering greater numbers
of people the opportunity to benefit from the Toastmasters educational program by:
- Focusing on the critical success factors as specified by the district educational and membership
goals.
- Ensuring that each club effectively fulfills its responsibilities to its members.
- Providing effective training and leadership development opportunities for club and district officers.
So what does the LGET and the LGET-team do?
Well I’m not going to cite the
District Leadership Handbook chapter and verse, but rather, let me
summarize the role of the LGET and the D27 education & training team with the following list:
- We will strive for the accomplishment of all district educational goals and the achievement of
becoming -- for the fifth year in a row -- a Distinguished District.
- We will promote and encourage all our members to earn a Competent Communicator (CC) and/or
Advanced Communicator (AC) award.
- We’ll work to make every club in the district a Distinguished (or better) Club. This is where the
Competent Leadership (CL) manual and other leadership functions come into play.
- We will plan, organize, and direct the district’s training programs which include for example the
Toastmasters Leadership Institute, speech contests, and two district conferences.
- But most of all we will foster excellence in club-level educational programming and promote
personal growth providing all members Positive Opportunities With Exceptional Results.
Another thing I’ve learned is that no one person can do it all. Most great achievements and all great
organizations are resultant from teamwork. So it is in the spirit of contributing to this year’s team that
I remain ...
Yours in service,
John Lesko
