Deep Summer
Message from District Governor, Lillian Cooke, DTM

Lillian O. Cooke
DTM

Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.
~Sam Keen

It's now deep summer, and Sam Keen may think it's a time for laziness, but not Toastmasters. We are very active in the summer.

There are club officer training sessions (Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI)) going on in Districts 27, 36, 18 and 66. Attend a session in any one of these Districts and get credit in District 27. Why attend club officer training? Two very important reasons: 1) clubs achieve more when the officers are trained to do their jobs and 2) Goal #9 of the Distinguished Club Program will be realized when 4 or more officers are trained in both the summer and winter. Want more information about TLI, send a note to John Lesko at lget09 at d27tm.org.

Smedley Award season began on August 1st. Add five new, dual or reinstated members in the months of August and September, and you will receive rewards. Want more information about Smedley, send a note to Paul White at lgm09 at d27tm.org.

Club contests are being planned and speeches are being given. Need tips on planning or executing your club contest? Send an email to your Area Governor at a??gov09@d27tm.org (replace ?? with your area).

And you can always contact me regarding any question or issue you may have by sending me an email at dgov09 at d27tm.org.

Have a great summer!

Toastmasters Leadership Institute

It's time for the Summer training sessions. Every officer needs to attend 2 hours of training.

Who should go and why?

  • Club officers: Training will give you valuable information on how to perform your job and improve your Club.
  • Club Members:
    • Electives which are offered are always very informative.
    • You can sit in on the officer sessions to see what your officers do so you can help them make your club the best.
    • You can see what officer you want to be next year by sitting in on the officer classes.
    • See the TLI FAQ for other reasons.
